JV Basketball Continues to Grow and Develop as a Team

With a young team full of new talent, this year’s focus was concentrated on education and developing as a team.

The sailors acquired valuable playing experience and were able to learn the fundamentals of the game, while gaining the confidence to compete. Every player has shown tremendous growth because of the encouraging tone established at the onset of the season.

The freshmen class was receptive to the returning players who provided valuable mentorship skills. The camaraderie that was formed between teammates made for an exciting and memorable season for everyone. As the season pushed forward, the team was subjected to a few injuries, but this allowed other players an opportunity to step up and support their team.  One of the most memorable games of the season was when the Sailors played Notre Dame Academy. The girls played with intense physicality, grit and determination. They dove for every ball and played Marymount basketball. The atmosphere in the gym was incredible, providing an amazing experience for the athletes who stayed composed as the game went into overtime.

Coach McDuffie feels that Marymount basketball is headed in the right direction. “We have the pleasure of having athletes, who want to play, compete and most importantly, work hard.” The coaching staff knows this group of determined athletes, are looking forward to off-season workouts in order to continue their development.  “It has been a real joy watching these young women grow as individuals and as team players.” Coach McDuffie commented. “I look forward to the continued growth of Marymount Basketball.”
