With the leadership from the four seniors: Clare Burgess, Kaitlyn Greta and Kate Wegleitner on the field and Julia Burgess from the dugout, the team was guided with a positive, can-do attitude that was incredible and fun to be around.
Along with instilling positive attitudes, the athletes worked on learning the fundamentals of the game while balancing the importance of academics as well. For the first time in Marymount history, the Softball Team was awarded the CIF Southern Section-FORD Academic Award with a cumulative GPA of 3.73! The athletes received a banner and were honored at an Angels pre-game ceremony to commemorate this amazing achievement.
The Marymount 2016 Softball season may not have finished the way the team had planned, but the journey was amazing. The athletes have continually improved throughout the season and provided each other with cheering support, so much so, one would think the team was undefeated! Some favorite cheers were: “Sweet Caroline,” “Hop, Hop, Hop-a-Long” and “Nation Wide” -- the Sailors had a cheer for everything!
Coach Troy is excited to see what is in store for the future of this young team!
