Soccer Season Outlook

Marymount High School welcomes a new coaching staff to Sailor Soccer: Head Coach Manu Appelius, Assistant Varsity Coach Asaf Kolin, Goalie Varsity Coach Ian Feuer and Head JV Coach Kristin Call. With the combined years of high school coaching, in addition to, playing professionally or collegiately, the Marymount girls have great teachers at the helm.

Summer started the new era of coaching. Coach Appelius had the opportunity to meet some of the returning players, as well as, some of the incoming freshmen during summer camp. It also gave him the opportunity to get acquainted with the school and some of its staff. During preseason, Coach Call saw a great turn out of enthusiastic players during preseason which began in August. All this, coupled with returning players from Club led to almost 60 talented players trying out in November for two teams.

The coaching staff feels that the team has a lot of strength in the center of the field. Coach Appelius commented, “I'm looking forward to building a team that can be strong both on the offensive and defensive end.” With the hard work and energy displayed during tryouts and recent practices, the coaches feel hopeful for a very positive first season in the two-year term in the Sunshine League. “We are here to give the girls an enjoyable experience and to push them to be the best that they can be.” Coach Appelius remarked. The Sailors are ready to work hard in order to have a fantastic year.

The Sailors are off to a great start; JV soccer is 3-1 with a big win over rival Marlborough. Varsity soccer looks to have an impact in the South Tournament this weekend. Stay tuned for updates.
