Varsity Volleyball Digs Deep at Durango

The Durango Classic is not for the faint of heart.  With pool play beginning on Friday and carrying on continuously throughout the weekend, the teams have to endure tests of energy, endurance and overall "toughness".  The Sailors dug deep and pulled out of many tight spots and overcame many close battles to finish 18th overall amidst very tough competition.

Kamehameha: 25-19, 22-25, 23-25
The Sailors had 4 aces and missed 7 serves, a few of those were in key points.   Devon produced 14 digs and Haley had 7, both of these Sailors played very well.  Grace had 11 kills and Emma had her season high with 10!  The game was tight and intense, but the Sailors made just a bit too many errors in the end.

Ralston Valley from Colorado was the last match of the day.
Cami hit 600% with 7 kills

Oakridge: 25-21, 13-25, 25-17
The quarterfinals of the Silver Division was a tough test for the Sailors.  The first game came easily for the Sailors, with Grace serving 18 balls in the match, most of them in the first game.  Game two brought a new set of challenges that tested the Sailors' ability to effectively pass and block and Oakridge's big lefty took over the match.   Game three, Marymount fought back.  Cami had 10 kills and Devon had 9 kills.  Jenni had her best match of the weekend hitting 340.

Harvard-Westlake: 25-17, 22-25, 25-23

Assumption: 16-25, 18-25
Marymount faced the number 2 team in the tournament in the finals of the Bronze Division and were playing for 17th place overall.  The Assumption Team was a very polished, well-trained team that was at the midpoint of their season -- these factors proved to be a big challenge and the Sailors were unable to close out the match. Grace and Jennie both had 6 kills each. Devon and Cami both had 7 digs.  After a long tournament with continuous play throughout, the Sailors were ready for some rest and reflection.
