The Varsity team finished second in League and set three new Marymount Records. The first was a year-old record in the 4 x 400m that Sophomore Skye Embray, Freshman Lucia Perez-Saignac, Senior Cecilia Hartge and Junior Malina Yago set with a 3:56.65, the second was a 23 year-old record that Malina Yago set in the 400m with a 57.59, and the third was the 35 year-old 800m record that Malina Yago set with a 2:10. Rounding out the season was the stellar performance of the Junior Varsity team. They finished third in a tough Mission League with a dual meet record of 2 – 2.
Sadly, the Sailors are graduating eight amazing seniors: Ivieosa Amufusa, Megan Carroll, Cecilia Hartge, Lindsey McAllister, Gabby Pacini, Claire Pregler, Naomi Smith, and Olivia Thomas. They are going to be greatly missed for their experience. Our impressive group of juniors led by example with their remarkable competitiveness in all their events. Most particularly, Sydney Collyns, Kenya Jamieson, Charlotte Jernigan, Hareena Johnson, Emma Rohrbacher, Malia Verge, and Malina Yago. Our sophomore class of Siobhan Burke, Skye Embray, Gigi Garland, Allie Mallock, Anna Marguleas, Nora O’Malley, Karen Ogisawa, Noel Piechowski, Ava Prunier-Herman, Katherine Scibelli, Kya Shepard, Bella Wright, and Bella Zuroswki brought in a tough, hard-working attitude and determination. They battled for every inch in the field events and fought very dearly for every point. We are blessed to welcome an overwhelmingly talented freshman class who was fearless and whose enthusiastic energy lifted the team. There is an amazing future for this group of athletes; Amara Aimufua, Raegan Beckham, Zoe Berger, Reilly Brumbach, Cara Burchell, Andrea Campos, Zoe Dantzler, Amanda Hobson, Samantha Jackson, Samara Johnson, Alexandria Longo, Olivia Mack, Giselle Malick, Jacqueline Musico, Jordyn Netter, Isabel Olavarria, Maddie Phung, Lucia Perez-Saignac, Caroline Riddle, Kiki Schumacher, Helena Theodore, Marissa Trapani, Azaclarisse Trillo, Catherine Villante, and Natalie Williams. A special thank you goes to our Team Managers, Seniors Valory Banashek and Bianka Gravillis, who helped support practices and meets in order for everything to run smoothly.
Coach Darboe believes the future is bright for Marymount Track & Field. This was seen through the athletes improving their personal bests multiple times during the season. Coach Darboe smiled with pride as he reflected, “I am very proud of the manner in which our Marymount Track & Field team maintained excellent sportsmanship, leadership, determined spirit, positive attitudes, confidence, and brilliant competitive attitudes for an outstanding season.”
