Beach Volleyball Season Summary & Update

The Beach Sailors had another strong Championship season. They went undefeated in the Westside League and also won both of their non-league matches, finishing the regular season with a 10-0 record. This is an impressive accomplishment with most of the athletes playing both indoor and beach volleyball, requiring the players to balance schedules between school and two sports. It was this level of dedication that led to the success of the season.

The teams of Devon Newberry/Charlie Robinson, Caitlin Keefe/Mitzi Novicic, Ruby Lightbourn/Cate Campbell and Erica Lydon/Catherine Bezerra-Fischer put in the needed time this year to take their game to the next level.  There was added focus on the tempo of the beach game, unleashing their jump serves (especially Ruby) and an all out aggressive, “get after it!” mentality. Seniors, Charlie and Caitlin have taken charge to improve their passing and “stop, look'” for the attack. The effects of their hard work have reverberated throughout the team, generating a collective effort to make this year the best one yet.

Playoffs began May 11th with the Sailors bringing home a decisive win over Trinity Classical.  The squad is hard at work preparing for Round II vs. Arroyo Grande, with a win over Arroyo, the Sailors could face top seed and last year's champions, Mira Costa in Round III. The team must win 2 out of the 3 matches versus each school to continue their path to the finals. Quarters, Semis and Finals will then be on May 21st. The Beach Sailors are fired up to compete and dominate each round!
