Varsity Volleyball Senior Night

The Sailors' victory over Louisville on Thursday night was a bittersweet one, as we celebrated and prepared to say goodbye to our 2017 seniors.

Seniors Haley Kortekaas, Lexie Freund, Lauren Douglas, Ruby Lightbourn, Yurika Boyd and Sarah Allman are all enjoying their final season before going off to college -- a Sailor bond that can never be broken and will forever be shared.

In Game 1, the Sailors set the pace of the match, starting off with 5 aces— two belonging to Haley, and one each from Lexie, Sarah, and Yurika— finishing the game 25-16. Game 2, the Louisville Royals responded to the challenge with tough serves and great blocking, but the Sailors found their rhythm and took the game 25-20. The Royals came out strong again in Game 3, trading point for point in the beginning of the game, with the game tied at 8-8. However, with Yurika and Haley serving, the Sailors went on a 7-2 scoring run giving them a 5 point lead that they fought to maintain for the rest of the game. The Sailors finished the match with fire 25-19.

Ruby, with her passing, defense, and hitting, and Lexie, with her setting and defense, played phenomenally. Our kill leaders were Devon Newberry with 9, Cami Carfino with 8, Ruby with 6, and Grace Frohling with 6 kills. Lexie led in assists with 16, followed by Haley with 12. Lauren, Sarah, and Yurika passed nails and had 7, 4, and 5 digs respectively. Overall, it was a spectacular game for the Marymount Sailors. It was a great way to finish the regular season, leading the league with an 8-0 record.

Final Scores:
25-16, 25-20, 25-19
