Sailor Golf Brings In More Success Fall 2016

The Marymount Sailors finished the season with a team record of three wins and five losses. This being the best team record for the Sailors thus far in the very competitive Mission League!

With first time Varsity Golf Coach Trent Nishiyama and Assistant Coach Joe Hayes at the helm, lofty goals were established for the season. The team showed great dedication and a strong work ethic as they met every Friday morning at 6:15am, in addition to the regular practice schedule, in order receive more experience on the course.

The younger and less experience Sailors showed great promise in the JV matches that were held during the season. Overall, the coaches have been impressed with the improvement made as a team and of individuals in matches, skill development and player strategic planning.

Tournament Highlights:

The Marymount Sailors placed 7th overall in the Midseason Tournament at Woodley Golf Course. Only to improve in the Mission League finals by placing 6th overall as a team.

Standout Moments:

The Sailors got their first win against Alemany at Hansen Dam golf course. Doing so, without their leading scorer the Sailors pulled together as a team and won by three strokes. In postseason competition, Senior and Team Captain Sloane Leipzig placed sixth overall in the Mission League Team Finals with a score of 80. Leipzig 17’ made the top sixteen players and moved onto the Individual League Finals at River Ridge Country Club.

Looking to the future, Coach Nishiyama hopes to build off the current team chemistry and work ethic. He feels this source of team effort will produce lower scores on the course.
